Weekly Streaming Recap: Week of April 22nd, 2022

Moon Knight Episode 4 (Disney+): This week there is a ton of Steven which makes for an interesting way to exposit the relationships that Marc has established over the time before the show began. The ending of the show, without diving too deep into the spoiler territories, does kind of lay out a roadmap for where the show is going to go for its final two episodes. The next episode will, in all likelihood teach Marc and Steven to work as a team rather than threatening to kill each other, while the finale will probably end with a fight between Arthur Harrow fighting as the avatar of Amit and Marc Spector fighting as the avatar of Khonshu. It is not necessarily a bad thing that the final few episodes are predictable as long as the way the episodes transpire are interesting.

The Girl From Plainville Episode 6 (Hulu): The latest episode really highlights the shortcomings of the previous because it both enters the trial phase of the criminal proceedings and also enters the phase of Michelle and Coco’s relationship where Michelle is going to begin pushing him towards suicide. The last episode did not do too much to push the show efficiently forward, leading to a feeling that the episode was kind of running in place, effectively burning an episode because they had a series order for seven episodes (possibly eight, Hulu has only been showing one week ahead for this show).

Trivia Quest (Netflix): While not technically new, every day there is a new episode and it is worth playing along in this trivia game. The premise is simple, the player answers trivia questions in an attempt to collect coins and free characters from a prison. The first round of questions is always relatively easy and the questions usually give a hint to the answer in them, however the hard mode questions that unlock do have a more fun level of difficulty to them. It is worth playing if one considers themselves a fan of trivia.

DisneyNature Polar Bear (Disney+): The DisneyNature documentary series is an interesting and well-done approach to nature documentaries. Once a species is selected, a famous actor or actress is hired to narrate the inner monologue of one or more of the animals, which is a cute approach to telling how this creature lives in the while. The visuals are always great which makes these a great tool for teaching about different types of animals all over the world. The only downside is that the DisneyNature series has largely been bumped to streaming when they used to be IMAX theatrical events that really brought the places explored to life.

Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers (Netflix): This series of restored movies from almost 100 years ago is worth a watch for anyone interested in the history of film. They’re all silent movies made by women filmmakers of the 1920s. These movies show some of the stepping stones that led to that era’s standard cinematography and acting that would eventually transition into the era of talking movies.
