We must completely understand the issues. Leaders in farming, restaurants, and construction are getting very nervous as the Trump administration steps up immigration enforcement. These industries have long depended on undocumented workers to keep things running. Over 3.5 million undocumented immigrants work in those industries. George Carrillo, who leads the Hispanic Construction Council, says there could be anywhere from 700,000 to 1 million undocumented workers in construction alone. He explained that taking these workers out of the equation would seriously hurt the entire industry because the U.S. has a severe labor shortage.
