He hadn’t been divorced long enough to misjudge loneliness for freedom. The apartment was still bare, more like a holding cell. In the next room, a high-end call girl waited. She represented freedom to him.

He had forgotten he'd invited an attractive co-worker over earlier that day. Then came the sound of the doorbell. He froze. The bedroom door was closed. Another woman was at the front door.

Will this be his first new scandal as a single guy?

What did he want? A night without consequences or perhaps a future with an awkward beginning?

With a glass of scotch in hand, he hesitated and contemplated. Then, as Barry White played on, he walked toward the door.

A thought came to his mind. Something he had once read. “The most honest thing a man can do is stand in the wreckage and not lie.” Or, should he?
