Weekly Streaming Recap: Week of 1/21/2022

The Book of Boba Fett Episode 4 (Disney+): Fennec Shand was introduced in season one of The Mandalorian in an episode where she was left for dead in the deserts of Tatooine. Then she reappears in season two of The Mandalorian with cybernetic enhancements where she was previously shot. An entire backstory episode explaining what happened between those two events is not needed. An explanation as to how he liberated his ship is not needed. An explanation about him going back to the Sarlacc Pit to try and find his armor is especially not needed since the audience saw his armor get stolen by Jawas in episode one of this show and saw that Cobb Vanth had liberated the armor and was wearing it in season two of The Mandalorian.

Peacemaker Episode 4 (HBOMax): After last week’s episode, Christopher Smith gets some needed character development and Vigilante develops into a character worth watching. The name of the show may be Peacemaker,
but Vigilante is definitely the funniest character in the cast. The DC comics nods are fun easter eggs as well with discussions about Batman and his relationships with his villains making for entertaining moments. This episode may not be the most action-packed, but a breather is definitely needed to develop the characters and make them feel like real people.

Injustice (HBOMax): In a totally unique concept that hasn’t been done to death, DC adapts the comic book adaptation of the hit video game to animation that asks the age-old question “What if Superman was evil?” If that’s not enough, the animation is not tremendous and the story is not the best. It is as if the reason why the video game sold well and generated a fanbase is because it is a solid competitive 2D fighting game, not because the story is great.

You May Have Missed:

Easy A (HBOMax): One of Emma Stone’s more underrated movies, Easy A is kind of like Clueless, in that it is a cinematic adaptation of a classic work of literature where it is updated to take place in the modern day. Easy A is a comedic take on The Scarlet Letter, set in a high school. It is definitely worth a watch if one has not seen it yet.

Sing Street (IMDbTV/Amazon Prime): Sing Street is John Carney’s fifth feature film about a teenager in Ireland who starts a band to impress a girl. The film is all around fantastic and features a good amount of 80s music homages that have clear tonal influences from other music from major bands. Anyone who is a fan of music will enjoy this movie.
