Do I want a freshly brewed cup of coffee, sunny-side-up eggs, bacon, whole-wheat toast, and a glass of juice to start the day?

It was a sunny day. I decided to take my relatively new car and eat breakfast at a cozy diner. But halfway there, why not switch it up? McDonald's for a quick Egg McMuffin with sausage, Taco Bell for a breakfast burrito, or Starbucks. I pulled into the Starbucks drive-thru and ordered a caramel macchiato and a sausage, cheddar & egg sandwich, the perfect reward for a day just beginning.

Later, back home after my 8-hour work day and a nice hot shower, I remembered I needed a few things. Sitting at the computer, I browsed online—clicking options for a new shirt, pants, a stylish jacket, a pair of shoes, and even a new set of golf clubs! Perhaps a sleek piece of furniture to complete the living room? The possibilities are endless.

With some free time, I studied my recent Medicare/Medigap insurance and 401k statements. I then, sank into the couch. I turned on the TV with over 1000 channels to choose from. There were ball games, game shows, cooking shows, TV shows, movies, and opinionated programs all at my fingertips, many in different languages. Wow! Freedom rings.

When I want, I could discuss anything I with relatives, friends, and neighbors with no reprisals. No one is going to knock on my door and threaten my freedom. I can drive 1000 miles to Florida or 3000 miles to California if I choose to, while my iPhone puts the world at my fingertips.

Our society's cornerstones are freedom of the press, religion, association, voting, and property rights. It took so long to get to this point in our history.

Let's remember to keep the framework of freedom strong and constant. Don't let negative voices challenge this. Together, we can uphold the liberties that make our lives rich and meaningful. JG
