The Jazz Loft has recently acquired an extensive collection of memorabilia and music from Jazz great Mose Allison’s estate, which will be on display next month, and will be accompanied by a concert on September 8 by Anything Mose, a Mose Allison Tribute Band and a screening of the BBC documentary “Ever Since I Stole the Blues.” The film includes commentary from Pete Townshend, Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello and others.
A local Jazz legend, Allison was a resident of Smithtown, New York for over 30 years.
Anything Mose, features Richard Julian (vox/guitar,) Stacy Dillard (saxophones,) Dan Rieser (drums,) Matt Pavolka (bass,) and John Chin (piano). The film begins at 6 p.m. and the concert at 7 p.m.
Born in 1927 in the Mississippi Delta, Mose John Allison grew up listening to Jazz and the blues great such as Louis Armstrong Memphis Minnie, Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, and the Nat Cole King Trio.
$40 for adults, $35 seniors, $30 students, 6 p.m. for film, 7 p.m. for concert.
