June is LGBTQ month. I was asked to write an article about the LGBTQ community. As I sit and contemplate, it is not easy to put into words what is considered a very important subject in the world today. My thoughts and feelings randomly breeze by, thinking of family members and friends who belong to the LGBTQ community and beyond.
What sincerely comes to mind are wonderful, helpful, civic-minded, and contented individuals happy to be recognized, accepted, and lauded for their individuality. Sure I can conjure up thoughts of abuse and misinformation in their community but doesn’t that occur in all diasporas, religions, organizations, and societies as a whole. Allowing respect, understanding, empathy, and love into your community should be a good thing. Most of us are creatures of habit, ideals, and routine but when separated from those habits, tenets, and routines many times a better understanding of the world evolves. I believe LGBTQ acceptance creates a better world. Let us all understand that balance in our daily existence is surely the key. If the scales weigh to one side or another for a particular sector of society, the scales of equality should be balanced out. The “old”, appears to work but it engenders the “new”. The “new”, the acceptance of the 'LGBTQ Community', makes the world a better place to live, work, and comprehend. The 21st Century will be a new dawning for all of us, young and old alike.
