Next week the Smithtown Special Library District residents (who are registered to vote) will be able to fill in the ballot for the 2022 budget vote and trustee election.
The 2022 budget proposal for the Smithtown Special Library District will include maintenance of the buildings, library materials, programs, employee benefits and other expenses. The total amount for the budget will be $16,018,073.
Annette Galarza, president of the Smithtown library board of trustees said in a Vimeo video that, "the proposed increase for 2022 falls within the New York state mandated tax cap." The average assessed home will have an increase of $6.20 per year (52 cents per month).
The number of seats available for the library trustees this year will be three. Two of those seats will have a three year term starting on Jan. 1, 2022 and ending on Dec. 31, 2024. The third seat will have a one year term from Oct. 26, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2022. Here are the seven candidates for the library trustees:
