The Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) and Transfitnation have partnered up for the Spring Into Action Step Challenge to benefit children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.
This six-week step challenge is designed to help improve the health of the local community. People use the Strive or Google Fit App and automatically track their steps, exercise minutes and move calories.
“Last year we raised over $700 while walking a combined total of 10,393 miles and 23.9 million steps,” said Steve Dell’Amore, owner of Transfitnation personal training in Smithtown. “That is a total distance equivalent to walking halfway around the world from Smithtown to Southeast Asia.”
DDI hopes to raise over $2,000 for an adaptive bike. This way certain residents will be able to ride the bike. Last year, their fundraiser had around 60 people joining in along with selling t-shirts.
“We try to make this challenge accessible to people,” Dell’Amore said. “Simply sign up for the challenge, download the app, enable health tracking, and keep an eye on the leaderboard as you compete for one of our top three prizes!”
The Spring Into Action Step Challenge starts on April 29 and ends on June 9. To sign up for the challenge, visit their website. First thing to do is to donate $10 to their GoFundMe page, download the track stepping apps and start getting those steps in.
