On Friday, March 8, the Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) held a rally outside the New York State Office Building in Hauppauge in order to gain support for increase funding and wages.

The rally drew in dozens of people including families with children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Many elected officials were present at the rally including Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio. She addressed the issue and told everyone about the need for more funding on I/DD services and wage increases for the staff. In addition, everyone came to support a 3.2 percent Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) increase and the Direct Support Wage Enhancement (DSWE).

“This budget bill does not do enough to ensure our New York friends with unique abilities are cared for,” Giglio said. “I am deeply troubled by the local cost of living adjustment salary increases for our dedicated service professionals and this year’s proposed budget.”
