So I decided I needed a haircut. The pandemic kept a lot of us away from the “Barber Shop” for quite a long time. We would let our hair grow or have a friend or member of the family cut our hair. A lot of us did not get any kind of layer cuts but we survived.
My regular barber retired a few years ago so I would hesitate about whom to use or where to go. I finally was fed up with how my hair looked so while in a strip mall, I saw a Barber Shop with no wait time so I went in. A tall, friendly-looking fellow with an accent came out from the back of the shop. He was very professional. I enjoyed the conversation and was happy with the way my hair looked.
A month passed and I decided to go back to the same shop. One other man was waiting so I thought there shouldn’t be too long a wait! A bad move! There were three haircutters this time that was working with my guy having a gentleman in his seat. One of the patrons had no hair, shiny bald, just a beard. He wanted a little off here, a little off there! The other haircutter had a patron who was very light on top, FaceTiming with his girlfriend, asking what she thought about his haircut. Sitting with my guy was a thirty-something, gum-chewing chatterbox.
Ten minutes went by, twenty minutes went by, a half hour went by, and the two of us that were waiting looked at each other and decided to walk out. The ridiculous pampering of these young men was obnoxious. What happened to just saying, hi, talking about how the New York teams are doing, paying, and leaving a tip with a pleasant take care of yourself? The young men today are pampering themselves to “Mr. Softiness.”
