Everyone has bad times. Whether it’s a stressful day at the office, a rejection letter from a school or job, or someone was being rude to you for no good reason. It’s times like these that someone needs an act of kindness. Well, today is a day for that because it’s National Random Act of Kindness Day.
Random Acts of Kindness Day was initiated in 1995 in Denver, Colorado by a nonprofit organization called The Random Acts Of Kindness Foundation. The event spread to New Zealand nine years later, in 2004, and the observance of the holiday became more and more widespread, according to National Today.
Some random acts of kindness date back to the 80’s. For example, Princess Diana shook the hand of a man with AIDS. This changed the belief that the disease is transmittable by touch. One act of kindness with a powerful message.
To observe this day, here is a few options:
- Compliment someone you just met.
- Make a donation to a charity and/or organization.
- Help a person in need when they are struggling.
- Tip generously to your waiters/delivery drivers.
No matter how big or small, an act of kindness can lift someone’s day and give them hope. Happy Random Act of Kindness Day to all residents of Smithtown!
