Look Left, Look Right, Step Up by the Gent

There are No Smoking signs all over the place. I want to begin by saying I was never a cigarette smoker. I don’t like the smell of smoke. I will occasionally smoke a cigar while celebrating my favorite team winning, having a glass of brandy after a great meal, or playing golf. But you better look over your shoulder! The “Smoke Police” are all around! Are we taking all the fun out of life? What does No Smoking mean? You walk on the streets of many cities and you can smell “Pot” all around you. Shouldn’t there be designated areas that will allow people, “To make peace with themselves?” Just like the Native Americans did. No Smoking signs are everywhere in bars, commercial buildings, theaters, concerts, sporting events, apartment complexes, etc. I am not saying they should smoke next to you or me in a public setting but give the smokers some space instead of having them go “in the woods,” in an ‘alley,’ looking for a deserted parking lot, or buying property. I believe secondhand smoke is a fallacy, but I realize some people are susceptible to secondhand smoke. Isn’t there a small minority susceptible to “something” in every category of our society these days? We breathe in things every day that would kill us sooner. If a smoker wants to die earlier than you and I, let him or her do what they want. Just keep the smoke especially away from children! Perhaps many of us are taking anti-depressants, opioids, etc. because we can’t smoke and “Make peace with ourselves.”
