If you were a billionaire and lived on a deserted island your money wouldn’t go too far. What can you buy? It seems all true values are being devalued like we are on a deserted island. In today’s society, the emphasis is on obtaining as much money as possible. The money grab revolves around twisted thinking. Values for a good life are downplayed to the point that society doesn’t think they are worth that much anymore only the accumulation of money is important. Why is this? Many of us feel that everything of value is being turned upside down.
Money has always been used to obtain things you need or want. It is a quick fix like a drug that will lead most people down the wrong path of wanting more and more. Take envy out of our vocabulary. Who really cares if you have a bigger house or a better car? Are you kind, honest, loyal, respectful, and humble those are the important traits? Yes, we are not on a deserted island but all of us should have that “warm bed,” with love, integrity, empathy, etc. surrounding us. Today too many of us don’t have what money can ever buy. Our society has an imbalance in wealth distribution and character building.
We take a roof over our heads with electricity, heat, a/c, and indoor plumbing for granted but not the millions of homeless. How we value love, sacrifice, loyalty, honesty, work, democracy, and empathy is taken for granted. Tell that to the millions of depressed, suicidal, lonely drug addicted, repressed, and hungry people out there who have experienced none of those good things.
Yes, we need a barter system, whether it is money, bitcoin, cryptocurrency, etc. to buy what we need and want but society needs to get back to what is the nectar of a good life. Let’s not allow all that is truly worthy and valuable in a healthy world to flip upside down because of envy!
