KINGS PARK, New York:

The Island Cup V’s second installment in the 2023-2024 season took place on February 3, 2024 at Kings Park High School, and it was a bustling event that triggered animated energy for the upcoming season! The Island Cup V had an impressive field of 33 teams, ranging from middle schools to high school seniors. This tournament attracted the highest talent from all over the Northeast, and demonstrated the continued intensity of competition throughout the middle of the season.

Team “Mather” B continued their strong performances, coming in first place with a perfect 11–0 record. They were led by ninth-highest individual scorer Rajiv Pujara, averaging 65 points per game. Fellow player Neev Saghal also supported him with an impressive 47 points per game.

Livingston A, with a 9–1 record, was a close second place. Their top player, Sophia Wu– a consistently high-performing player–averaged a total of 60 points per game and answered 48 questions correctly. Not too far behind was Livingston’s B team, who finished in third place with a record of 9-1. They were led by fifth highest scorer Arav Kaushik– one of only two players in the individual top 10 from the top three teams.

Middlesex A– a team comprised entirely of middle schoolers– came in fourth place with a 8-2 record, continuing their strong success against players up to four years older than them. They were led by seventh highest individual scorer Anika Bansal with 76 points per game, who showed just how much of a powerhouse she will be in high school.

In the top 10 individuals were many outstanding players. Notably, player Jonathan Bakay of Mepham A got about fifty percent of the questions he heard, leading his team to 6 victories.

The third and final installment of Island Cup V will take place on April 6, 2024 at Kings Park High School. The field is still open, so be sure to sign up for more exciting games of Quiz Bowl.
