From Wedding Bands To Urban Rodeo

Urban Rodeo is a Long Island local country band that plays cover versions of songs from well known country stars.  Here is how the band came to be.

The band consists of Casey Wayne (lead singer/guitar); Joe Zogbi (guitar/vocals); Frank Thumhart (bass/vocals) and Brian Smith (Drums).  Casey Wayne explained that before he joined Urban Rodeo, he used to be in wedding bands.

"I've been in bands since I was 12-years-old," Wayne said.  "More recently before I started country I started singing in wedding bands and dance bands and things like that.  I started singing country for this one band I was in because they were playing the wedding and they want country music and I liked.  I kinda felt home with it."

Urban Rodeo first came together and performed in October 2018.  They've played in several different events and venues around Long Island.  One example includes Boardwalk Thursdays at Sunken Meadow State Park.  They combine country hits and line dancing for the crowd.

"We're all over Long Island," Wayne said.  "We play country Tuesdays at the warehouse, we do country Tuesdays at the Nutty Irishman, we play all the beach huts all over Long Island.  We've done a lot of private parties and weddings.  We pretty much do it all."

They're generally a cover band.  They've performed cover versions of songs from Luke Bryan to Luke Combs to Jason Aldean to Blake Shelton.  They plan on doing some original music in the future, but they aren't ready for that yet, so they're sticking to cover songs for the time being.

Urban Rodeo plans to remain playing these events and venues in order to keep the crowds content. "I just want to keep on doing what's going to make them all happy and what's going to keep them smiling," Wayne said.

The country cover band's is expected to perform next at Smiths Point (Tiki Joe's) in Shirley on Aug. 25 from 6:30-9:30 p.m.  If someone is a fan of country music and some line dancing, then Urban Rodeo is the ideal band to go see.
