The existence of extraterrestrials with a vastly more advanced civilization would expose human conflict as shortsighted and self-inflicted. The invasion of Russia over Ukraine. The very idea of North Korea imprisoning an entire population, or nations allowing millions to live in tents and starving, while wealth concentrates at the very top, would be truly seen as incomprehensible. I am sure, the media and populace, would be forced to see itself from the outside. How ugly would it look? Will humanity choose humility over dominance, cooperation over control, and responsibility over denial?
My take right now is fear would dominate. I am very sorry to say, authoritarian regimes might tighten control, claiming the extraterrestrials as enemies and threats or twist things and say our new friends justify repression. Militaries would race to weaponize even more. Distrust would deepen between hostile nations. The suffering of the poor and displaced could worsen as resources were diverted to “planetary defense,” repeating humanity’s response to the unknown with violence and hoarding. All aspects of religion will be questioned. God help us!! It will not turn out well. I will pray I am wrong. JG
