Weekly Entertainment Recap: Week of January 22nd, 2023

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Episodes 1-6 (Disney+): This show has the potential to be the Harry Potter for the current generation. The world they build is interesting and demands to be explored further and the three leads who play Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, have such great chemistry that the show continues to be must-watch television every week. The show is also really well-paced (something noted as a recurring issue between Echo and Ted) where it never overstays its welcome and the episodes tend to take exactly as long as they need to tell their story without feeling overlong.

True Detective: Night Country Episodes 1 and 2 (HBO/Max): People tune into True Detective every time a new season comes out to watch a masterclass in acting, an intriguing mystery in a unique setting, and some dark horror elements that will come into play later. True Detective: Night Country has all of these things and, while the show may start a little on the slow side, the performances by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis are riveting enough to keep viewers interested as the case unfolds.

Ted (Peacock): Ted took the world by storm when it debuted back in 2012 and, perhaps unsurprisingly, the prequel event series on Peacock is as good as the movie. The show definitely has its entertaining moments beyond just the initial shock humor of having a teddy bear as an adult and a lot of the time the plotlines develop in a way where there is entertainment value to them beyond just the humor that comes from Ted as a character. That said, the episodes are a little on the long side and some do feel as long as they are, especially if one was to marathon what is essentially 8 consecutive hours of Ted.
