On Christmas Eve, it’s a time for celebration. A time for family and friends to come together and observe this holiday. One way to enjoy this day is with a glass of Eggnog because today is also National Eggnog Day.

This holiday drink is a sweet beverage made from milk, sugar, spices, cream, and eggs, eggnog has been enjoyed by families a day before Christmas. The history of eggnog goes way back to the 13th century.

According to National Today, the origin of the holiday beverage was highly debated. The Oxford English Dictionary says that the word ‘nog’ was used to describe a type of strong beer brewed in East Anglia, England. Others argue that eggnog was developed as a beverage in medieval Europe, using piping hot milk.

Here are a few ways to observe this day:

  • Enjoy a glass or two on this Christmas Eve night.
  • Add your own choice of liquor in your eggnog and have a more festive night.
  • Create your own eggnog recipe using the holiday flavor in coffee, cookies, ice cream, etc.
  • Share your own version of eggnog on social media with a hashtag #NationalEggnogDay.

For those who enjoy eggnog and Christmas, this day is pretty serendipitous. Happy National Eggnog Day and Merry Christmas Eve!
