The Flash Season 9 Episode 11 (The CW/CW App): All the “Arrowverse” shows on the CW have had the same general issue where they seem to not know what to do with a character once their initial arc ends. These characters end up languishing and ending up in weird subsequent arcs that never feel quite right. Beyond the Chester/Allegra parts that are just nonsensical at times, it is obvious that no one has any idea what to do with Caitlyn/Killer Frost/Khione who is now a god apparently. That’s not an exaggeration, that’s how she describes herself. This episode is far less engaging than the first, though that could be because it feels largely like filler in the second of the final four episodes.
The Power Episode 9 (Amazon Prime): Revolution is coming and this episode lays that groundwork beautifully. In terms of a finale that leaves the show open for a possible second season, The Power does a great job of laying out a new paradigm that simultaneously would be interesting if it is explored and satisfying if it is not.
Crater (Disney+): Ordinarily a new release movie on streaming would receive its own feature, however, Crater is just so bad it does not warrant the time to do its own piece. The movie is Stand By Me but set in space in the future as a group of teenagers go out on their own to find a crater that may have something in it. The movie seems confused about who the target audience is as well where the general motif of the evil corporation basically enslaving people would make the story feel at home in a current collection of science fiction short stories, but considering the movie has a PG rating and is primarily targeted at families, it still feels out of place and is the more interesting part of the story.
Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie (AppleTV+): After debuting at Sundance this year, Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie tells the story of the pop culture icon without pulling punches or turning the whole narrative into a depressing affair. Anyone who wants to learn how to properly make a documentary should watch this film as it has a brutal honesty that a good amount of celebrity-focused documentaries are missing.
